What is this lesson?
Broccoli! Watermelon! Lemon! This lesson takes a swing through the produce section and introduces a whole variety of fruit and vegetables.
This is a fun lesson. Vegetables and fruit are things that kids recognize and don't easily get tired of. The flashcards are bright, and this lesson lends itself to all sorts of games. You'll be coming back to this lesson even as you get to harder material: vegetables and fruit are simple nouns, which make them perfect for teaching sentences such as "What do you want?" and "What do you like?"

How do I teach this lesson?
The DVD introduces a number of vegetables and fruit and what they are called. As the teacher, you can reinforce the DVD lesson by teaching with the Vegetable and Fruit flashcards. Plus there are tons of games that work well with this lesson.
If you print doubles of the flashcards, you can play Vegetable and Fruit Match Up, Go Fish, and reverse Go Fish.
Or if you have a set of plastic fruit and vegetables, you can play What Do You Want? Game, Do You Want? Game, What Do You Have? Game, or the Go Get! Game.
Vegetables and fruit are extremely useful for teaching basic sentence patterns involving objects or nouns. The games mentioned above use the fruit and vegetable objects to teach sentences, and the same thing can be done with flashcards. You can hold out several flashcards (or a flashcard sheet) and ask the question, "What do you like?" The student then answers, "I like the lemon," or whatever they choose. This is a great way to teach not only the names of fruit and vegetables, but basic sentences as well.
Extra Material:
This lesson is useful in teaching the following sentences (not introduced on the DVD):
What do you like... ? Do you like... ? I like the...
What do you have... ? Do you have... ? I have the...
What do you want... ? Do you want... ? I want the...
