What is this lesson?
What is the caveman doing? He sure can move. One minute he's running, the next he's cooking dinner, and the next he's sleeping! The caveman is silly, but I bet he can teach you lots of verbs!
Verbs are the words that drive sentences. They tell you what the person in the sentence is doing. That's what makes the words in this lesson especially important. You can learn the names of dozens of objects, but without verbs, the objects will never do anything. However, once you know how to say, "He is running," you also know how to put any number of objects in action! "The dog is running!" "The girl is running!" "Tommy is running!"

How do I teach this lesson?
This lesson teaches a verb in the present form, the present participle form, and in a sentence. Run. Running. He is running. First and last, this lesson is about verbs. It's helpful to teach verbs in sentences, so the flashcards are laid out that way. But as the teacher, you are trying to communicate these words in as many ways as you can. Flashcards work well to get basic practice with this material.
You can also use action games to teach this lesson, depending on whether they work well in your teaching situations. Stand Up! Game is one example of how you can teach verbs through games.
The lesson What is the Boy Doing? later on this DVD is closely related to this lesson. It works well to teach these two lessons together.
